I received financing for an auto loan through American Eagle Bank three years ago. Unfortunately, when a dealership is shotgunning your credit information out to lenders, you don't get any time to research them. This bank charges extra for absolutely anything. I lost my payment book in a move, and when I called to request a new one, I was told that the charge was $50!! For some preprinted paper! I attempted to move my payment date back to the end of the month (my paychecks aren't always issued on the same days) and was again told that there was a $50 charge. Because of the lost payment book, I am usually forced to make my payments via phone. THIS costs me $15 per transaction. Because my payment date falls at the very beginning of each month (along with EVERY one of my other bills), I am usually forced to wait to make the payment until the end of the month. I ABSOLUTELY HATE being late on any payment. It makes me lose sleep! Of course, then there's a late charge (issued the day after your payment is due) which amounts to almost $30.
All this being said, I have found occasion to speak to several different parties, both to retrieve information, and to pay my car note. While some are both friendly and helpful, most others must sit there and twist their mustaches as they judge, berate and harrass. Up until very recently, I have never received any calls regarding late payments. When I did, however, the gentleman (and OH, I use the term loosely) informed me that the bank has called me EVERY month! When I told him this was not the case, he basically called me a liar. I asked him to look at his records and tell me if any of my payments were more than 3 weeks late. He failed to answer, and continued to treat me as a total delinquent. I called after the fact, and authorized a payment to be deducted from my account the following Friday. This would have missed being reportably late by three days. Unfortunately, said Friday fell two days before the Fourth of July. I have been unable to reach anyone today (Monday) to question why the payment has not yet been deducted. I have, of course, discovered that the bank is closed due to the holiday. I have no idea how this will turn out, but believe me, I will update you!
