My name was used on a car as co-signer and was forged on a car that i did not know anything about runining my credit how do i correct this San Antonio texas

I wanted to buy a house but when i checked on my credit there was a bad debt for a mitsubishi, i have never bought amitsubishi, nor have i been to a mitsubishi dealers,

I have not bought anything on credit since 1980
all i can figure out is someone used my name.

I would like to know how are have this corrected.
Why this company did not check for id.
