I would like to take this opportunity to explain why I left TDB Enterprises. I have always considered myself to be a reasonably intelligent person. I decided to because of potential health risks caused by working 74 hours a week.
When I graduated from university I was so worried about getting a full-time job. A lot of my friends that had graduated the year before had serious trouble finding work. All the companies they had applied for only wanted graduates with experience. Then one day I opened the Evening Standard and saw an add asking for graduates no matter the level of experience as long as you had particular skills. I was so excited. I just wanted to work, a chance to prove myself. I called the number, and I was asked if I could come for an interview that day. I couldn't make that day but I made an appointment for the following day. I should have realised that something was up. But I was so nave.
The philosophy behind the company is great. The fact that you can enter a company with no limitations on how far up you can go. But like everything that sounds too good to be true. It often has a big catch. The company lies to you from the second you step foot in the building. I initially had a feeling that the company was bogus when I saw a sign saying "Interviewees, this way." I stood there looking at the sign wondering why would they need a permanent sign?'. But I pushed my worries to the back off my mind and went to the interview.
In the interview I was told that if I was in the management programme it would take 3-6 months to get to ownership (managing my own office) as long as I was willing to work hard. They make you believe that you are actually having a real interview. But I didn't realise that EVERYONE gets through the interview.
My first few weeks at the company week ok, I just kept going cause everyone else seem to be so happy. But gradually the company began to eat way at me. The longer I was in the company the more I began to hate work. The thought of arriving at 7.30am to hear more boring pitching, the same loud music, and the same tedious impacts. The fact that I was working 74 hours a week and earning between 60 to 150 made me feel worst. The money I earned didn't cover my expenses.in this job I was selling electricity and gas business.
In an average week I had to pay;
Weekly travel card 35
Buy my food from local restaurants 70 (since I was working outside all day I couldn't carry a packed lunch,
A high phone bill 40 (I had to call everyone in my team and customers from my mobile).
TDB Enterprises worked on a totally commission basis, if you didn't sign anyone you were not paid any thing. There were occasions where I worked all week (74 hours) and didn't earn a penny. I was working all the time, 6 days a week in fact, but I still had no money. The company had to benefits to speak off, e.G. No holiday pay, no sick pay etc. I decided to leave because I am not a sales person. And I knew that since I am a graduate I could find something better. I have actually been offered two jobs to start in October so I'm happy now. The company takes you in and works on your fears. The love people that believe that there is no other opportunity for them. The whole company has sales pitch for everyone that enters the company.
I would like to say to everyone still in the company, you are worth more. Just think of how much the other parts off your life are suffering.
Even though my time at the company was such a crappy experience, I wouldn't change it for the world. Everyone that has work for TDB Enterprises has learned something. And hopefully has made some good friends as well. We are all much stronger people, and the experience as made us appreciate the jobs we have now.
