Johnson Mapoyane representing Cape Trust contacted my firm through the Merger Network stating that they were looking for good investments in America from their clients in South Africa. After requesting business plans and documentations regarding the companies we are working with, they expressed an interest in one company in particular. They then informed us they wanted to invest 18 million USD into this business. Our attorneys drafted a PPM for their clients signature and to deliver the funds. They sent us copies of the signed PPM but then expressed to us that we had to pay $1 per $1,000 to release the money to the US and would take 4-7 business days to complete. At this point we were skeptical and asked if we could do smaller blocks of the money and they explained that due to the corruption in SA, they wanted to get the money moved out ASAP and needed to move the entire $18 million.
They even requested our presence in South Africa to meet the parties involved. We were going to fly out next week until we just found the report. The client was real, stories on him all over the internet, but Johnson Mapoyane had no affiliation with the client what so ever, and neither did this "Benjamin" with the previous client we read about on this website.
We noticed the first out 25 emails a name "Benjamin Lekota" was used, and was changed to Johnson Mapoyane from then on who claimed to be the director of Cape Trust. They seemed legit on the internet, creating a homepage for their business etc. We googled Benjamin and found a lady on this site who was scammed with the exact same situation at hand with more money requested. Recently, during the last email or two they changed emails. Do not trust this and be aware!!!
