Wow, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that so many complaints have been made about Capital Cons. The last part to this name, Cons, is really quite fitting. On December 30, I called and got my account payoff amount. The operator gave me my payoff amount and I paid the amount, the whole amount, using check by phone. I moved Jan. 3, and since I had paid the account in full, I had no reason to call Capital Cons with my new address. Seven months later, I found that Capital Cons had reported me to the Credit Bureau for not paying on my account.
I immediately contacted Capital Cons only to find that my account had been sold to a debt collector. The reason? The operator, who gave me the amount for my account payoff, did not include some interest that had not yet been added to my account. I was then told that it had something to do with the way the accounts are updated. I attempted to explain, reason, and finally argue my point without any success.
The interest was only $129.65. After interest and late fees, I ended up paying $378.56. The best part about all this, and I am being extremely facetious, is that my credit is now tainted and I will have to wait seven years for this to cycle off of my credit report!
