I saw an ad for Home Typists on America's Job Bank. I entered my resume as asked. It looked like a good opportunity to supplement your income and the website has always been used by reputable companies, I thought.
One day later, I received an e-mail from TNT Data Works saying that I was a good fit for the company and to follow their link to the company website to get started. The website via the special link tells you that there is a one-time $20 charge for the instruction manual and software to get started. It goes on to say that after your first order, this will be refunded. I thought this can't be bad. The $20 must be submited via PayPal. After you submit the payment you are thanked via e-mail and given another web link to download the software. The link does not work and you will not be contacted back by the company (???) when you try to find out why.
Do not be fooled by the fact that a job like this is posted on a reputable site. Look for other identifying information such as an address or phone number instead of just an e-mail address before plunking down money, no matter how big or small. I hope this helps someone. Remember e-mail addresses can be ignored after the fact.
