I had only worked at the company for a couple of weeks as the new In hous Escrow Manager when I started to notice that some things were done out of context to doing a Conventional Refinance Loan. Alot of inconsistancies with borrowers funds for upfront fees.By the third week I knew something was amiss at how Betsy Duranty ran her business and that she wasn't a very experienced person in the Mortgage Banking Industry. She had banking experience but working with spread sheets was her forte. When she told me to hold back a borrowers refund check because the borrower owed us money from bounced checks.
I called the Borrower & asked if they had any outstanding fees due us and they said "No, if anything she owes us money for having been charged for Application & Appraisal fee's twice". So I mailed their check w/o direct permission from Betsy, as by law, with a copy of their HUD I/Closing Statement. Betsy in turn (I found out later) put a stop payment on that check.
There was already another such incident with another borrower, who's loan had closed at the end of May and as of the middle of July, she still hadn't sent their proceeds check. Per Betsy it was because they still owed us a mininmal fee. (which was a lie, of coarse) I personally spoke to this borrower and had found out they had spoken to the DA's office and an investgation was in the process.
I left the company a week later due to a family emergency & not wanting to be implicated in these wrong doings, just by working there. Nor could my conscience let me work at a company who believed in Bad Customer Service and who had Unprofessional & Unethical work habits.
When Betsy found out I wouldn't be returning to the company, she in turn refused to pay me my last 2 weeks paycheck of $1500.00. I knew that was going to happen. She had done the same to previous employees. I in turn, put a claim into the labor board. But claims due take time. She has put me in financial hardship.
She will get hers in the end for how she treated every employee that worked for her and for each customer with blatent disregard. I don't know how she thought she could conduct a mortgage brokerage the way she did and still come out w / a profit. Broker/Loan Officer depends on his customers to refer him/her business.
I feel for all the borrowers that have gone away from this company with such a bad experience for refinancing their home. It doesn't have to be that way and Betsy has turned it into a Nightmare from them. There are good and honest Mortgage Brokers out there, just make sure to some research to find the right one.
