To start this off, I have always had a problem with 5/3 and there lousy workers. I have had three occasions where I had my account overdrafted for over $500. Why, or how you may ask? Because they are so slow they do not let you know your account has gone over until a week later. And they tell you by sending a letter (I swear we had technology to send news faster... Weird!)
I admit, those 3 occasions were MY fault, because I should have kept my account balanced better, but I was 17-19 at the time. I am 21 now. Onto why I am filing this...
A few months ago, I received my settlement check from a wreck earlier this year worth $500. I went to get it deposited on a Friday. The clerk gave me $40 back (I had $4.53 in my account) and said thank you. Nothing about waiting until my check clears (I had deposited a check of 2,300 earlier that year from the same company) so I figured everything was good.
On Monday, I bought something using my card. And through that week, I purchased a few more things (no more than 12 transactions). I went to get some money out of my account when I noticed it said -$177.97. Now this couldn't be right because just the night before it said I had $223.97 in my account. So I went in and talked to the lady who deposited my check and said that I overdrew my account with three items (worth $69 total). How? I do not know. She asked if I got the letter (which didn't show up until 3 days later). So I called Corporate. Very nice and professional. He said that the clerk indeed messed up and I need to settle it with the branch.
I tried. They ended up screaming at me and are sending my case to the Debt Collection Agency. I told them I will not pay them over $200.
They need to realize that they make mistakes and that sending notices through the mail is OUTDATED!!! I have an email account, home phone, and cell phone that gets text. So annoying.
