I just received a call from a Mr. John Callaway of Capital Acquisition Management Company. I was informed that that they were a collection company willing to "settle" a Chase VISA account, from 1986 I supposedly had not paid, for only $200.00. He would not tell me what the account balance was, only that they would settle for $200.00.
Of course I said it was news to me, as I don't recollect ever having a Chase VISA account, especially not one from 17 years ago. He said he would fax me an "affidavit" and I would have to responde by Monday (today is Saturday) or face having this collection put on my credit report.
I asked him what the account number was and he provided one to me. I said I'd look at his "affidavit" and check the fair debt collection practices act before calling him back.
I immeditely called Chase, and they have no record of this account, nor would they collect on one from so long ago, besides the statute of limitations would have expired.
This is a scam! Do not send this company a dime! Of course, there are multiple listings here on the consumer complaints that describe their outrageous conduct.
