Refusing to make GAP payment. They say because we refinanced the car

My wife bought 2006 Hyundai Tiburon in 8. The dealer told us about GAP insurance, said it was a great idea.

The GAP insurance company was JM&A in Tampa.in 8, the car was totalled in an accident on a wet road (no one injured, luckily).

Geico did their part quickly and efficiently, as always.

We contacted JM&A, and they gave us a very long list of everything we had to gather to send to them. That's when we realized we had never been given a copy of the contract with JM&A.

After putting us off as long as they could, saying we hadn't sent all of the required paperwork, most of which we actually sent twice, JM&A informed us that our coverage was "null and void" because we had refinanced the car. "It's right there in your contract" they told us, except we never received a copy of the contract.
Now the finance company says we just have to continue making payments on a car we no longer have.

They told us to contact the car dealer and have them cancel the GAP contract as of the day we refinanced, and they would give us a "pro rated" refund based on that date. Thanks, I feel much better knowing we'll get maybe 4 or 500 bucks to put toward the 3600 we still owe on the car.

We refinanced our home a few years back, and our house insurance was not canceled. Seems like these guys are running a pretty good game on all of us.
