For the past three weeks, I have been receiving telephone calls from a company called Global Contact Servicies that proceeds to tell individuals that the company is calling on behalf of Bank of America.
Global Contact Servicies tells individuals that they are sending them various types of information (usually related to insurance - mortgage, identify theft, etc.) on "behalf of Bank of America." Individuals are told that they will be sent information through the postal mail that will need to be reviewed within a certain time period (usually 30 or 40 days).individuals are told that if they want to reject the services being offered by Global Contact after reviewing the material the receive in the mail and NOT be charged for these unsolicited services, individuals will have to either telephone a certain number and/or reply by mail in order to keep from being charged a monthly fee of approximately $40 for the services they are selling "on behalf of Bank of America."
Upon being asked, two supervisors at Global Contact Services say they are a "third party contractor" to Bank of America. Supervisors at Global Contact Services will reportedly take your name and phone number to stop these harassing calls. That does not help. The calls continue the following week. Upon calling Global Contact Services back, they will simply refer you to a number for Bank of America.
Bank of America has a customer service center that will supposedly deleted phone numbers of customers who do not want these types of calls, yet a call to the Bank of American headquarters in North Carolina seems to indicate that these calls from Global Contact Services (in particular) may be fraudulent. Bank of America is apparently aware of these types of calls, but they also have "affiliates" with whom they do business — and it's unclear who the "affiliates" are and who the potentially fraudulent organizations are (such as Global Contact Services of America).
