Since the deteriorating economy started to impact our household earlier this year, I have tried to work out a solution with Bank of America (formerly Countrywide Home Loans) to settle our second trust deed on our home. Until recently, I had a credit score of 806. I am 60 years old, in poor physical and mental health and currently taking 7 medications every day. I have always paid my bills on time and been a responsible man.
I tried to do what I thought was the proactive and mature thing with BofA. I contacted them immediately when I felt I would no longer be able to make the payments on my second trust deed. I faxed them all the requested paperwork outlining my financial situation. The only response I received from them was when I called them to verify that they received my paperwork. Since then they have repeatedly called me, sent threatening letters and refused to respond to my settlement offers.
Last Sunday, they sent a man to my house with a letter to contact them because they claim I "won't return their phone calls". The man they sent was also observed talking to my neighbors across the street about me before he left. I documented every call I made to them. I finally could not take any more and I told them, in writing, that I am filing a complaint with the FTC for their violations.
Some of my previous conversations with BofA employees have included their threats to foreclose on my house, attach my "assets", etc. All of this coming from one of the financial power houses that caused our economy to tank because of unregulated greed, corruption and incompetence.By the way, thanks guys for decimating our retirement accounts. My wife is also 60 and she keeps saying how she will have to keep working until the day she drops dead.
