This card was purchased in 4/08. The front of the gift card says the card is good through 7/09.
There is a $3.95 purchase fee, to purchase the card.
They charge. 50 fee to phone for balance inquiry.
The small print says the funds on the gift card do not expire. But then it says that after six months, they begin to charge $4.95 a month for non-use.
The company is making money three ways:
1. On interest from investing the purchase price until the card is redeemed.
2. Charging a $3.95 purchase fee.
3.By ripping you off by taking $4.95 for not using the card.
The first way is legitimate. The second way is legitimate, because they tell you up front, even though it is a bad deal. Most gift cards to not charge purchase fees or activation fees.
The third way is a pure rip off. Apparently it is illegal in some states.
Gift cards should hold their value, just like cash.
