Credit card company lied about interest rate. Never got the rate they promised. Received a $35 late fee for past months bill although it had been mailed 15 days prior to due date. Talked to them; they stated they'd never received the payment and said that if I stopped payment of the check I had sent them and the check showed up at their office, I would be charged with a Returned for Insufficient Funds bad check charge.
The afternoon of this conversation, I received a notice from Juniper advising me they were returning the envelope containing my check for payment because the post office has destroyed the top right hand corner of the check. You could still read the amount of payment my name and address and signature on the check and the account number.
Today, I got a call from Juniper's collection department demanding payment (although I've never been late with a payment to Juniper) for the previous month's bill. When I told this person about receiving my torn check from them in their envelope with their form letter, I was told I still owed Juniper the late fee in addition to the original payment. I'm so frustrated and angry. I've made arrangements to pay Juniper off and have destroyed their card. I'm wondering if what they've done is legal, if I can report them to my Attorney General, Usa Consumer Complaints.com, or what legal recourse I may have.
