World Financial Group - City of Industry - Unemployed People Beware!

I think the World Financial Group tactics are outrageous and people that have recently become unemployed should beware and research anyone that contacts them for an interview. I want to share my story so people will not get duped into wasting their time like I did.

This is how it all went down:

I got a call from Clyde Morgan and he let me know that he reviewed my resume on Career Builder and he wanted to set up an interview with me.in this Economic times I knew that when someone is calling you for a job - up goes the 1st red flag! Since I have not interviewed for over 5 years I thought it would be a good idea to go to this interview so I could sharpen my skills - Big Mistake!

When I asked about the position and if I could get a job description Clyde just told me it was sales and it was in the Finance Industry. I asked him the company name and he told me it was Aegon (WFG's parent company). So, I then asked him to e-mail me the company info, his contact info and job description.

His response was " I am not really good at the e-mail thing, it doesn't really work for me" - 2nd Red Flag! What kind of business or business representative says something like that? All I know if he had told me it was WFG I would have laughed at him and hung up the phone because I had heard of this scam.

After the first 2 red flags I knew something was fishy, however, I really wanted to freshen up on my interviewing so I decided to go and see what Clyde had to say. The interview time is at 1pm and I show up at 12:58. I walk into the office and there is a group of about 15 people talking and there was really lame music playing - That would be Red Flag number 3! I should have just walked out when I had the chance!

Unfortunately I stayed because I had already wasted time driving there. I talked to some guy - don't even remember his name? I do remember that he looked very unprofessional and had absolutely nothing good to say. Did I mention I had a nice suit on and was expecting the same type of professionalism? We then got a quick introduction and all she did was talk about how great Howard Qu was - lots about his accomplishments that had nothing to do with Finance.

We then got ushered into an office that was a bit small for the number of person's and was uncomfortably hot! We then got to listen to a presentation out on by Howard Qu. At this point I did not want to be there but thought that I would sit through it and be polite. I was sitting next to a gentleman that was in a nice suit just like me and probably around the same age. We both kept on looking at each other and laughing at ourselves and the situation - we both knew that we had been duped!

The presentation finally ended and we were told that we needed to pay $100 to start up with WFG - that's when I got up and made my way to the door! They attempted to keep me there so they could talk me into it, they were pushing a bit to hard and I pushed back and had some choice words for them. They realized I was upset and they should probably let me go - I was close to losing my cool and it was not worth it to me to continue talking to them.

I happened to go down the elevator with the gentleman I was sitting next to and we had a good chat about the whole ordeal that we just went through. We both were just recently layed off from our jobs after over 5 years of service and we both just wanted to sharpen up our skills. We laughed and thought we deserved it because neither of us was actually going to take the job. We are both professionals, educated and just want to find work that we are passionate about doing - WFG is not it!

The main point I want to make is that there are people out there (WFG) that are going to prey on the recently unemployed. Promising ridiculous commissions that are way to good to be true! Unfortunately, I learned all of this because I was lied to and they got me in the office. That's why I am posting this - I want people to know that if someone calls you and seeks you out make sure you get the full story over the fun and research what they tell you so you don't waste your time like I did.

WFG should be ashamed of themselves and the tactics they use to get you into the presentation (lying to you or not giving you the whole story) should tell you a lot about the company itself. This is how some people want to make their living - I don't understand it, but that's just the way it is I guess? Just know that in my opinion, WFG is an unethical organization and they are totally taking advantage of people due to the economic circumstances.
