My wife was hit by an insured with Safeway Insurance Co. We contacted his insurance co to notify them about the wreck. We contacted Safeway Managing General Agency, P O Box 17345, San Antonio, TX 78217,210.820.8350
Mr. Tom Mathiew, Their Branch Manager, told me that his customers were "desperate people". He REFUSED to confirm that his insured even had a policy with Safeway. This despite the fact I furnished him a policy #. He also told me he routinely gets to turn down 6-10 of this type of claim EVERY single day. He told me his "investigation" as to whether his client was even insured could take 6 - 8 WEEKS. He stated that if I wanted my car fixed i should make a claim under the uninsured motorists portion of my own insurance. (now remember, his insured has avalid policy with this company).
Mr. Mathiew bragged how it was his duty to pay the least amount of money from his company, Safeway Insurance, & Oak Brook County Mutual Insurance co. I took all these comments as a threat.
Apparently he meant it this way because as we got into the claim Mr. Mathiew's and Safeway Insurance Co & Oak Brook County Mutual Insurance companies' appraiser delayed the repair of our car 3-4 weeks.
We became so frustrated with their appraisers stalling that we called in our own insurance company and they started with the claim. Because so many delays in part added to the expense of repairing our car, our insurance co totaled the car.
Then, Safeway insurance and the rest of the aforementioned insurance "professionals used the fact that the car was TOTALED to DENY any compensation on our car rental (required as we use for business, we had no choice) They eventually did pay us 477.97 but cheated us out of $1265.04 as they determined their appraiser did have "some responsibility"
WHAT A SCAM THESE PEOPLE HAVE.
First, it appears that they accept high risk drivers without checking them out, then since their customers are "desperate people" they look for some sort of mistake or ommission to deny the claim. Then they deliberately delay where they can (their appraiser), (six weeks - 8 weeks to determine if a person has a policy?) and then look for any reason to deny the claim.
SHAME ON YOU SAFEWAY INSURACE CO, OAK BROOK COUNTY MUTUAL INSURANCE CO AND SHAME ON YOU MR. MATHIEW, SAFEWAY MANAGING GENERAL AGENCY
You cheated me out of $1265.04
You should be investigated by the Justice department for your shady unethical practices. I have also made complaints with the insurance commission for TX and IL. I have also contacted the BBB.
