My husband was contacted via phone by Nancy Rosen with Capital Venture Investments after multiple internet searches for personal loans. I checked many different consumer websites and the BBB website for more info about the company. After a conversation between myself and Ms. Rosen during which she got very hostile over my questions as to why I couldn't find them anywhere on the internet besides their website. She told me they were a private brokerage firm who dealt with 3rd party lenders who loaned funds to folks with bad credit. Long story shortened a little. They approved him for a $20,000.00 loan with the understanding that once he sent them $1089.00 via MoneyGram to a Mr. William R. McCullock in Halifax, Nova Scotia, they would wire transfer the loan amount to his checking account.
Another phone call came from Nancy Rosen stating they needed an additional $1089.00 as per the insurance company who was providing the insurance on the loan was sent to Mr. McCullock. After that transfer the money would be released. I called Ms. Rosen to tell her we were having problems acquiring the $1089.00 needed for the second payment. She asked me how much we had available. I told her we had $500.00. She then told me she needed to talk to her supervisors and my husband was to call her.
After more phone calls it was decided that I would wire the $500.00 we had and Capital Venture Investments would chip in the remaining $589.00. I was to call Ms. Rosen with the reference number when the transfer was complete. I called her and left a message telling her I would call her again to verify the transfer.
Upon the second phone call she told me to give her ten minutes to run down to the legal department and verify that indeed the transfer had been made and when she had verification she would call me back. After waiting about 30 mins. I called her, got her voicemail, left her a message to call my home phone number.
Lo and behold I never got a phone call. My husband and I both tried to reach her again to no avail. We both got her voicemail. I also tried to access their website - www.caventureinv.com - which is no longer available. So now we are out $1589.00 thanks to Capital Venture Investments.
If these people contact you, be aware! They talk a real good talk, they are very friendly and reassuring that this is indeed the real deal and not a scam. My husband and I both spoke with Ms. Rosen in depth about our concerns and she reassured us multiple times that it was not a scam and within 5 mins of the transfer the money would be in the checking account.
It isn't a deal at all. Thanks to them our holiday stinks.
