My girlfriend bought her home about four years ago with her then husband. They ended up getting a divorce and she was forced to pay him out the house (equity at the time) to the tune of over 60k. At that time she was forced to refinance to accomplish this and she went with Homecomings Financial. Homecomings had the loan for about 3.5 years at which time Aurora Home Loans purchased the note, thats when everything went really bad.
We had not paid the property taxed in a couple of years, however there is a 5 year (almost six year) grace period before the County can auction the home off. Well when Aurora bought the loan they decided to pay the taxes and bill us over a 12 month period, mind you NOW this doubles our taxes for that year. Our payment went from $2,200.00 a month to over $4,400.00 per month!
We called Aurora and they were and are unwilling to work with us on this. They are literally crooks and anyone that has a loan with them should consider themselves at risk. We have now hired an attorney to help save our home and in going through the file we are determining that they have breached RESPA laws and Truth in Lending laws. Anyone that has a loan with Aurora or any other fraudulent company should seek counsel before hiring a loan modification company. Attorney's carry a lot more weight and can also sue for damages.
As I mentioned in the above top paragraph the loan we had was with Homecomings, well they are really no better as it looks like they are in bed with one another. Before getting a loan, really consider who is your friends and enemies.
