Family Credit Counseling Corporation
Shady Money-Stealing B!

I signed up with FCCC in July and was pretty happy with their services up until a few months ago. They hadn't always made my payments on time, but I figured it was no big deal since the payments usually got to my creditors eventually. I checked my credit card statements recently and noticed that I was WAY behind on my payments, so I called up FCCC to see what was going on. They were still around at the time and they told me that they were taking care of everything.

I called again about a week ago to follow up and that's when I found out that ADC had taken over. ADC then tells me that they're not handling anything that has to do with past payments or anything of the sort and that I'd have to find a way to contact whatever was left of FCCC myself. I tried in vain to find a working phone number to get ahold of SOMEONE, but I had no luck.

As of now, I still have no idea what really happened with FCCC other than the fact that they either went out of business or they went bankrupt. Either way, they have about $5000 of my money that was debited out of my bank account that was never distributed properly. I don't know what I can do to get my money back other than get ahold of some other people that are in situations similar to mine and start a class action lawsuit. Oh yes, and my credit was ruined, so keep track of your credit reports closely!

It looks as if the attorney general of FL has already started an investigation, which is a good thing:

I don't really have any advice to give, other than to tell you all the things that I have already done. I have filed complaints with the attorney general in FL (www.myfloridalegal.com), with the BBB (who are also investigating FCCC), with the Agricultural and Consumer Services (www.800helpfla.com), and the FTC (www.ftccomplaintassistant. Gov). So far, I have not heard back from anyone.

I have also filed a complaint on this site:

Lastly, I contacted my bank to notify of them of what was going on and I put a stop payment to prevent any money from being debited by FCCC from this point on. The bank service was free but only effective for 6 months. I also filed a claim for the money that had already been debited (but not dispersed to the creditors). For those of you who are thinking about doing this, you should do it soon. I am not sure what all the different bank policies are, but mine told me that I could only a claim for transactions that took place in the last 60 business days.
