Complaint / Review
Legal Affadavit, US National
Threatening to arrest me

I received a cell phone call from a gentleman named "Matthew" he had a very thick accent and said that I or my retained attorney had better call him immediately. He threatened me by saying that if i chose to ignore the call and not call him the second I received the message that the local authorities would be contacting me to arrest me. He ended the call by saying call me back or he wishes me good luck with my life.

I called him back and he advised that he was from Legal Affadavit and that he was representing US National. A payday company. I told him that I was not familiar with that name, he kept sidetracking me, telling me that 12 emails were sent about this delinquent matter and that now he was going to set an example of me by arresting me and charging me with fraud and issuing bad checks. He told me my checking account #, and the last 4 digits of my social security #.

I asked what I could do and he put me on hold while he talked to "his attorney". After a couple of minutes he returned telling me to write a letter of apology to the company stating that I didn't intend on commiting the crime and that I would be willing to make a payment arrangement. He told me that I owed the total of 1031.00. I said that was impossible because I've only borrowed $300.00 from a payday company and paid it back. He said I was being charged 360% interest and that I should shut up and accept it.

The next morning I faxed a letter to the company requesting details of this matter. I informed them that I hadn't received emails, or written notification of any of this. A Tom Smith called me back and said he couldn't do that. He was representing the company that is sueing me and I should keep better records. I said, certainly in this day in age, you can understand why I am hesitant to give my debit card info over the phone without any proof of who I am giving it to. He said Be careful, you are challanging the integrity of my company and we already have a warrant for your arrest. He said I need to fax the apology letter along with details of when and how much I can pay to resolve the matter. He said if you neglect to do this your employer will be informed of my fraudulent behavior and the local authorities would arrest me.

I told him that I would fax the letter this morning.

I never intend to fax the letter. I am contacting my local police and my bank. It is my hope that we can sue these "terriorists". I have lost sleep, and have had two panic attacks over this matter. It is unacceptable.
