I have been using Green Dot prepaid cards for a long time, for various transactions online. The reason that I liked them is because I don't want my real credit card information being compromised. I have experienced identity theft before so I felt that the prepaid cards were a good protection for me.
Anyhow, I hadn't purchased a new card (not a refill) in a long time but this time I decided to purchase one from CVS and I put $280 on it. I really needed that card to be activated as I am moving and I need to pay deposits for my utilities and phone.
Well, went I went online to activate it this evening, they required my SS#. I don't remember that being a requirement in the past but they claimed they needed it to prevent money laundering. Though really I know they want it so they can try to offer me a credit card later.
Anyhow, so I put in all the information they required, and to my surprise, they said they could not activate my card because I had too many cards in the past, and that I have to wait 10 business days for them to send me a refund check in the mail!
What??? Stop the press! I am supposed to be moving on Monday! I don't have 10 days to wait for them to refund my money!!!
Since when have they put a limit on how many prepaid cards you can purchase? And if there is a limit, where is it written? In the fine print? I still can't find it!
