Nigerians aren't the only ones ripping us off!

I heard all the warnings about money laundering through Nigerian banks, so I always deleted those emails. I am currently unemployed, so when I received an email from Mary Colbert, Recruiting Officer at Matfort, I paid attention. She claimed to have seen my resume on Yahoo (hotjobs) and had a position she thought I would be interested in. It involved accounts receivables-right up my alley. I sent my information (nothing that could compromise my identity) and received an email from her about 1 week later saying my first transaction was on the way. It came via Fed Ex (reputable company I thought?) The envelope contained two US Postal Money Orders for 850.04 each. My job was to cash the money orders, then wire (via Western Union) the balance (after deducting my 350.00) to a person (also in the United States) named in the email. I checked wit USPS online to be sure the money order serial numbers weren't on their list of stolen or duplicated money orders. They didn't appear "washed" and I could see the Ben Franklin watermark clearly. (These people are good, I'll give them that) I cashed the money orders at my credit union, then transferred the funds to my credit card (to pay Western Union) however, I was unable to wire any funds as Western Union's site was messed up (Karma?). I waited and checked every day to see when Western Union would be up and running so I could send this money. THANK the Gods, I never sent it. I got a call from my bank today saying the money orders were returned to them with FRAUD all over them. I am now going to have to reimburse my bank the entire 1700.00. If I HAD wired the money to the person in New Jersey, I would be responsible for DOUBLE that amount, plus it costs 99.99 to wire money. I consider myself fortunate that I need to repay 1700.00 instead of 3500.00. Be cautious with these kinds of scams - they are getting more and more sophisticated. I received another email today from another company requesting the same thing. I won't go into the "Colorful" eloquence with which I responded, but suffice it to say, burn me once, shame on me...
