Last May I was getting ready to start college, and I tried to get a grant to help pay for school and expenses from GF Services. I was contacted by a representative from GF Services named Shawn Germain.
He "pre-qualified" me over the phone and told me that based on my family size and our limited income I was qualified for a $45,000 grant. All I had to do was fill out the contract and send it back (first class overnight shipping) with a money order for $469 to cover the "underwriter" fee.
After that They emailed me the paperwork to fill out and I was once again told to send it back first class overnight to get it in the office by Wed. June 13 before the government office closed or I would have to wait until the fall.
I was told it would take six to eight weeks to process the paperwork and then I should recieve an acceptance letter by mail. ONce I got the letter I had to call the number on the letter and give them my contract number. After that all I had to do was wait for my check.
By the end of August I had not recieved anything, so I called the office and was told by the lady who answered the phone that I should recieve my acceptance letter by September 15.
On September 15th I still hadn't recieved any letter, so I tried to call again. No one answered the phone. I called back everyday, but no one ever answered, so I left a message every day. Until one day I called and the message said the mail box was full. I still kept calling every other day, for two months but it always said the box was full. I also tried emailing the company at both email addresses I have once a week. But I have yet to recieve a reply.
In the last couple of weeks when I try to call the office the number is always busy.
I am not sure how to go about trying to "rectify" the situation. If anyone has any ideas, please contact me.
And if you are thinking about trying to get a grant from this company, DON'T! All that will happen is you'll send them money and then never hear from them again!
