My husband applied for a loan over the internet and a few days later was contacted by phone by Walter Mckenzie of Liberty Investment Group. He said we were approved for a $6000 loan with a 6% fixed interest rate for 4 years. All he needed was a fax number to send the paper work to.
We gave him a fax number and the same afternoon he faxed us the paperwork to sign. While reading the terms of the loan I noticed a clause near the bottom of the paper. We need 9 payments of $140 or one lump sum of $1266.39 to secure the loan. Once that was paid we would receive the money in our account and payments wouldn't be due until December '08.
We sent that money to them via money gram and the next day was told that the lender a "Teresa Young" from Canada needed another $1266. For insurance purposes to grant us the loan. Again, we sent them the money via money gram and was told that the money would be in our account within 1 business day if not sooner.
We waited the entire weekend and come Monday afternoon when there was no money deposited my husband called Mike West, the CEO of the company, only to find out the number was disconnected and the website was suspended. He then called money gram and they told him we had been scammed.
