On 2/16/08 I deposited my paycheck of over $1,000. On 2/17/08 I shopped with my debit card and also made a web-initiated payment on a monthly bill. While running a quick check on my account by telephone, I was shocked to hear I had 2 returned check-related fees and a returned check amount for the web-initiated payment.
I called the bank on 2/21/08 to inquire about the fees and overdraft and was told my balance was almost $1,000. The payment returned was for $200. I was told that because 2/18/08 was President's Day, and 2/16/08 was a Saturday, all of my transactions had posted on 2/19/08.
Even though a list of my transactions BEGINS with the deposit of well over $1,000, the bank ran all payments through, overdrew my account, returned a $200 payment, assessed unfair fees, and then credited my account for the deposit that was made a full 24 hours before any other transactions occurred.
5/3 agreed to refund one overdraft-related charge, but not the second one, and I have now incurred charges from the vendor for providing them with insufficient funds.
I feel violated and would gladly join a class action for such unfair conduct. Is this embezzlement or just immoral conduct?
