My Citibank account was charged off 12/18/03 as bad debt as I had lost my job and was disabled. Midland said they bought account and called and sent letters. They sued me (Sheriff delivered papers) in June. I called Ms. Ward at the law firm of Trauner, Cohen, & Thomas (who were suing me on behalf of Midland.) She said to send a hardship letter describing circumstances to her and to also respond to courts to lawsuit which I did.

After not hearing from them, I called the law firm last week and was advised by Mr. Wash in Hardship Section that my account had been closed. I asked for a copy of this and was transferred to Mr. Joe Thompson who confirmed this and then transferred me to the attorney there, MR. George Thorpe. He told me that everyone was wrong, that I stll owed the full amount, and that the only thing they would accept is 1/2 of the $4879 they say I owe.

Nothing has changed. I have no job, am still disabled and have no funds to pay this. He advised me that he was surprised that they had not refiled the lawsuit and that this would be forthcoming in the very near future and I had one week to come up with a plan of else. What a bully!!! I asked what the heck the hardship letter had been for if they did not consider it. I have also called a local TV personality who deals with consumer fraud and they are also checking into this. I did dispute this on my credit report, but all you get is computerized answers and that's about it.

This is not right. When a debt has been written off, it should not be bought again and again. It ruins people's credit and is a hassle and a stress to have to deal with something that you think has been behind you for five years.
