GMAC Purposely Defaulted on Paying My Taxes and Embezzled Money From my Escrow

GMAC refused to pay my tax bill when they took the escrow money for it and said on several occasions over a 6 month timeframe that they would pay it.

GMAC mortgage screwed me on my tax bill - they took the money to pay the taxes and only paid the taxes on my condo and not my garage (I have two separate pin numbers) - I kept calling GMAC reminding them they needed to pay my taxes and was told on several occasions, they would handle it. They did not and my taxes got sold. It was a completely nightmare to get the taxes paid - I had to submit a letter with a processing fee asking for the bill to be sent. I wholeheartedly believe GMAC intentionally defaulted on the payment and bought my taxes when they were sold by Cook County.

GMAC maintains they never said they would pay the taxes because they say that the language in the title describing exactly where my garage is located is not specific enough for their standards so therefore, they won't pay taxes for the garage now or ever. This makes no sense since from the time I bought the condo up until the time the taxes were sold, GMAC repeatedly told me that they would be the taxes on the garage. I called GMAC on 3 occasions when I realized the taxes were not paid, and each time I was told GMAC would take care of the taxes. They never did and they held onto 800 dollars of my escrow money for the garage for 11 months before refunding it to me.
They still owe me 100 dollars that has yet to be refunded.

Each time the tax bill was sent to me after it was sold, I would send payment (a money order to be exact since they did not take a check). However, the person/company who buys your taxes has the ability to raise the payment amount at will and so this mysterious entity (GMAC Mortgage) would raise the payment right after I sent payment, so each time they would then return my payment (money order). I tried making a payment 6 times before I finally gave up (all the while my amount due increased from 450 to almost 1,400). Finally, my fianc (I was suffering from a severe injury and had undergone 4 surgeries while GMAC did this to me) physically went downtown to cook county treasurer with a bunch of cash to pay the taxes. So a tax bill of 450 ended up costing me almost 1400. The benefit to GMAC is that they earned interest this year on 900 dollars of my money they took for 2 escrow payments for the garage, which they never ended up paying for. I finally got most of my money back after asking for it repeatedly back since the taxes were sold in June.

Watch your mortgage bills and be careful about trying to resolve issues as quickly as possible! GMAC is not a good mortgage company and I would never recommend doing business with them!
