EMC Mortgage corp charged fees for no reason

I noticed a $90 'corporate advance' fee on my mortgage statement. I phoned EMC customer service department and was instructed to write the 'customer service/research dept'. Which I've now done several times and the replies I get state that EMC can charge whatever they feel like to 'protect their interests'.
