Scam! Ripoff

Salute Visa is a scam and I wouldn't recommend their cards to my worst enemy!

I received a letter in the mail pre-approving me for one of their visa cards. Since I just came out of a bankruptcy last year (thanks to my ex spouse) I decided to take inititive in trying to strengthen my credit rating. I was approved only after making an initial down payment of $20.

About 3 weeks later I received my first bill in the mail. I called their toll free number to make my first payment and was advised that their systems were "currently down". Before hanging up with the rep I confirmed that they DO accept payments over the phone, but he suggested that I visit www.mysalutecard.com and make a payment on the website.

I went to the website to register my account and after I entered all the pertinent information I hit the SEND button. Nothing happened. I immediately thought that maybe their site wasn't compatible with the Firefox browser so I switched over to IE and the same thing happened. The site just sat there as if I hadn't tried to register.

*side note - I find it strange that any other link you click on their website works just fine and directs you the the necessary page (applying for credit, customer service contact numbers, etc) but when you try to register it doesn't confirm nor deny your registration.

The next day I called their toll free number (again) and the csr informed me that she could in fact accept a payment over the phone, however there is a $15.95 service fee that will be billed to my card. Are you freaking kidding me? I made a dry joke about how that was probably more than what she made per hour and she then suggested that I register my account on their website and make a payment there. I told her that I was having problems registering on their website and she immediately snapped back: "There is NOTHING wrong with our website, its user error, maybe YOU need to learn how to operate a computer". And then she hung up on me.

A few minutes later I called back because either way I needed to make a payment since it was due in 5 days. I told the new csr what had just happened and she acknowledged the fact that their website is having issues and she said that she could register for me. GREAT! But she then tells me that there is a $3.95 charge for them to register me, and there is a $5.95 fee to pay online.

We get that all squared away and although im not happy about their outlandish fees, I suck it up and proceed to make my payment.

Heres the kicker.

When you go to make a payment it pulls up a calender where you are prompted to choose a payment date. Here I was 5 days before the due date and the next "available" day to make a payment was 4 days in the future. I figured that would be fine because I would still be a day early on my payment.

Boy was I wrong. I received my second bill in the mail 2 weeks later and there was a charge for a late payment. According to my bank statement, Salute withdrew the funds 3 days prior to my due date although their calender stated it would be drawn out 1 day prior. I called their customer service AGAIN to find out how it could be considered late when I made the transaction 5 days prior and they withdrew the funds 3 days prior to the due date. They said it was because it didn't "post" until a few days after the fact.

I have rebutted the late fee, and hopefully I will hear something soon.
