About a year ago i regretably went to the auto title loan place on 8th st in sheboygan wisconsin, with the thoughts of getting enough money loaned to me to take care of some things in a time that me and my son were getting our own apartment. While in the process of getting the loan i was having my doubts about it because i had heard stories but was also told that as long as you keep up the payments i would be fine.
I reluctantly signed all the necessary documents to go through with the loan just keeping in mind that this was going to help me and my son throught the next couple weeks. The amount that i borrowed was $650, not alot but enough to get the things i needed for me and my son.
Over the next couple of months i paid the amount of my monthly payments ($184) always on time and sometimes even a little earlier, and sometimes more than $184, not knowing that making the payment earlier would then require me to pay more the next month which i just donot understand how this works. Now if they wouldve told me that by paying by the due date or a few days before i would only be paying the interest and the money that i was giving them for payments wasnt even going towards what i had borrowed i wouldve been paying them at the beginning of the month insstead. I guess thats their legal way of robbing people.
After about 6 months i started noticing problems with my car and eventually the trasmission went wich caused me to loose my job and therefore resulting in not being able to pay the auto title loan. I always kept in contact with them assuring that i had every intention of paying them as soon as i was able to, and it seems like they were ok as long as i kept in contact with them. Well it is kind of hard to find a job when you have a limited availability and only being able to use my mothers car when she wasnt at work. So i wasnt able to find a job for some time and still havent been able to.
Then one day i get served with papers telling me to go to court with auto title loan. So i go and the jugde was obvioulsy irritated with all the small claims from auto title loan. She simply told me to make payment arrangement with auto title loan. So i called them a few days later and talked to a woman and told her my situation... Im not working and i will pay you as soon as i can and she seemed understanding.
So about a week later i get a call from a "private decective" thinking he was with the police. He come to my house and wants to know the situation with my car i tell him its not drivable so it was sitting at my dads house close to the place where i had taken it to get fixed, spent $600 and it didnt fix the problem. He asks me to show him where the car is so he can verify that its not in drivable condition so. All the while hes telling me that hes going to try and help me and see what he can do about all this. Not knowing that hes just a stupid little repo man that makes a living ruining the lives of other people. And basicly lied to me to get my car (is that even legal?) Well i go show him where the car is and he starts it up, well just becaue the car starts doenst mean you can drive it so then he starts telling me that i lied about it and im trying to hide it which wasnt the case at all and it was obvious.
He gets on his phone to his boss or whoever he was talking to and then tells me hes going to have a tow truck come and take my car. Now before i even showed him where the car was he assured me that he was not there to take my car just there to check up on the situation. Not a minute later a tow truck comes and takes my car. Now theres nothin i can do to get my car back and personally i think i should be compensated for the difference of what my car is worth and the amount i owed them even though the amount i owe them is all interest i paid them back what i borrowed and then some. So they say my car is worth $6,500 even though i paid $14,000 for it and i owe them $1009. And some cents. So that means i should recieve $5,500. Which i dont see is going to happen.
Now even after i get a job and get enough money to get my car fixed i dont have a car to fix, me and my son have no transportation and live where there are no taxis or buses. Now im back to where i was before i even had the car and even worse off. I dont see how putting a hold on the lives of a single mother and her son that get no help whatsover but from my mother now, is worth $1000 of free money to them. To anyone reading this DO NOT get an auto title loan. Even if you need the money and you have a steady job to pay them something could happen like what happened to me. I had no idea that my trasmission was going to go out and that caused me to lose my job. I just dont want this to happen to anyone else. Its a scam and should be outlawed in the state of wisconsin and everywhere else.
