The Grant Mentor
Aka "On Target Grants fraudulent scam empty money-back guarantee false advertising Internet-based Ripoff

I was surfing the web one day in April, because I was trying to take my mind off finals. I stumbled across a site that says, "Get money to take surveys!" I am usually a skeptical person, but I am a college student and I'm hard-up for money, so I decided to try it out. It ended up being one of those scams that tries to get you to sign up for things before you qualify for money.

Well, being an intelligent (well, I used to think I was intelligent) young college student, I thought maybe I could sign up for a couple of the offers and then cancel them later. The Grant Mentor was one of the offers that came up, so I signed up thinking I could cancel my subscription; in fact, the advertising from the company said "Money-back guarantee if you cancel within 15 days of purchase!"

I never received any materials from the company, nor a confirmation email, NOR a way to cancel my subscription. I never heard from the company, and after letting my credit card company know that I didn't want the charge to go through should the company put anything on my card, I thought everything was okay.

Now, two months later I have a $49.95 charge on my credit card! They must have seen that my credit card company blocked them the first time, and so they waited until everything was all clear, and then charged me! I tried calling the number provided on my statement both on Saturday and today, and was unable to speak with anyone. Saturday, I was placed on hold by an automated message for ten minutes before I hung up. Today, I couldn't even get through to the company! Every time I called, I got an automated operator message saying, "We're sorry, all circuits are busy. Please hang up and try your call again."

Well, I am disputing the charge (hopefully my credit card company can resolve things in my favor) but I had to freeze my credit card. The Grant Mentor (billed to me as "On Target Grants") is a huge scam! Don't be taken in by it! It's really tempting as a starving college-aged musician to want to believe all of these too-good-to-be-true offers, but don't give in! They ARE too good to be true, so just stick your nose in the air and walk on by.
