You are just beginning to experience the deceptive and abusive servicing tactics that Gmac employs to start you on the road to foreclosure. It is typical of this company to ignore your request (s) for information about your loan. Don't give Gmac the time or the opportunity to manufacture a default scenario and ultimately cause you to forfeit your home and/or lose the equity.
I suggest that you only communicate with them via certified mail. Write Gmac a letter which includes your name, address, loan number, and date.in the letter state your concerns and problems and what actions you'd like for them to take.
If you should speak to a customer service representative make a note in a log book regarding the time, date, who you spoke with, and what transpired during your conversation. Follow up with a letter confirming your conversation. At this point you really need to start creating a paper trail.
Continue to make your payments on time over the phone even though you're being ripped off $20.00 each month. File a complaint with the Department of Professional Regulations (DPR) in your state. This governmental agency is the watchdog and licensing unit for companies doing business in your state. If the telephone fee Gmac is charging is illegal the DPR should take them to task for it. Also send a copy of your complaint to your state attorney general, the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Contrary to your characterization, this company is NOT a joke! GMAC is a criminal enterprise which has developed and honed a sophisticated scheme to defraud you out of $20.00 a month and, given a chance, your home!
