Beta Finance - Arm Of DIRECT BUY
Doesn't acknowledge receiving payments dunning collection calls when loan current ripoff

We succombed unfortunately to the Direct Buy hard-sell, and agreed to pay $4990 for "membership". We put down about $1000, and the rest was financed through their lender, Beta Finance, which is apparently a subsidiary and is wholly owned by Direct Buy. I received "courtesy calls", read: COLLECTION CALLS, soon after.

They claimed I had missed a payment, so I sent 2 which they received and cashed on May 8th. Within 5 days I received another "courtesy" collection call, and I informed them they already had my payment, and after some "digging", their caller said they found those payments. About 5 days later, I received another "courtesy" collection call for the same payment, and by now I realized they apparently have no proper system for keeping track of debts and payments, which is the most important thing a finance company should be doing. Yes, after searching, she found my payment.

After about 5 days, on 5/25/07, I received another "courtesy" collection call from Cory from their office. Now I'm steaming. When I told Cory I had paid this nearly 3 weeks before, Cory said they used 2 computer systems, and were making collection calls from the less current computer records (stupid), but management later said that was inaccurate and there weren't 2 systems. How can one rely on a finance company to take payments, record them properly, and report accurate info to the credit bureaus if they can't even keep track of the payments coming into their office, and continue to collection-call people who have already paid the payments which the calls are demanding to be paid? I asked Cory for a pay-off balance, told him I was very disgusted with the company and didn't want to deal with them anymore; he gave me the pay-off amount and we did a check-by-phone to pay the balance off in full.

At that time, I told Cory that The envelopes in which my statement comes had no return address on them, and since I get a lot of junk mail with no company name or return address, if I did previously miss a payment, it was no doubt due to no identification on the envelope to inform me that it was a company that I was doing business with, which would route that envelope to the "bills" pile. He told me that there was no return name/address on their envelopes due to "privacy issues" so that nobody would know my finances. I told him that made no sense, as all my other creditors identify themselves on their envelopes. (In fact, later, the manager said she was unaware the envelopes were going out with no company name on them.)

About 5 days later, I got another "courtesy" collection call, and told the gal that I had paid this off in full with check-by-phone with Cory and had no balance. She claimed to be checking on it, and then said OK, and I told her Beta Finance is really messed up and should keep better records. On June 6, I received another bill saying my balance is $6.95. I finally reached the manager who waived the $6.95 balance and faxed a letter saying the account was paid in full. It remains to be seen whether this is the end of it.

So from 5/8/07 to 6/6/07, I paid 2 payments, then paid the account in full, then received another invoice for a remaining balance, and received altogether 6 collection calls on a current account.

Beta Finance should not be operating because they can't keep track of money and they harrass their customers who are not delinquent.
