Re: my discontinued direct buy account
To the Finance Department of Direct Buy,
In October, I visited a Direct Buy showroom and signed up for a membership. However, within the next 36 hours I realized I was not going to be able to make the payments for the membership. I followed the directions on the application and returned it immediately. I also went to my bank, CommonWealth Central Credit Union, and stopped payment on the check I had written. I presumed that was all that was necessary to discontinue the membership. If there was more that I was supposed to do I was not aware of it, since I had to return the application to withdraw my membership. I received no further communication from you and figured all was done.
It is now November, and I am still receiving bills from Beta Finance for my cancelled membership. Not only that I received a call from a collection agency where the agent was rude and didn’t let me speak. Needless to say, I hung up. What is going on? In June, I called Beta Finance at the number above. I was told to call Direct Buy and they gave me a number&which I called. I spoke to someone who cut me short and insisted I call (800) 733-3737, even though I tried to tell her that she was sending me back to the number that had referred me. She hung up and I called Beta again only to get no answer. I called twice that day and left 2 lengthy messages. No one has returned my calls. I continue to receive bills and collection agency letters from Beta Finance. Personally, I am feeling harassed. I have tried! Besides all of the hassle, it has made my already bad credit even worse.
My only recourse now is the Better Business Bureau. They will receive a copy of this letter, as well as my complaint.
