I have been with Wachovia for over 7 years and was amazed when I woke up to see $175 in overdraft fee's! I called Wachovia and spoke to Angela Hunter and lost the call. I called back and spoke to Kathy Felix and explained the sitsuation.
I was at a hotel for the weekend on business and the hotel decided to run my debit card twice for meals, once for tip and once for actual meal. This causes a few small items on my debit card. Kathy told me to call the hotel and have the holds removed and I would get a refund. This did not happen.
They then told me that a hold of $96 caused me to be $40 short, hence the $175 fee's and another $35 in fee's the next night AND $8 in telephone call fees that I will get another $35 FEE even though I had money go in the bank that same evening.
Wachovia "feeds" on the small guy who doesn't have the extra money to place in an account for overdraft currently. They could have paid everything and then ran the hold and charged me $35, no problem. I even told them I would accept most of the fee's if they could just return $70 of the fee's (keep in mind I will have to eat $140 plus another $35. The fee's where due to small amounts, $2, $8 etc! I don't feel comfortable being charged $35 for a $2 transaction!
When is this going to stop? Why should a customer get a $175 fee for being $40 short? Is this 500% return? You do the math.
I then called Glenda Bruce, Troy Whittaker, Bob Bowser, Kay Wood and Scott Feldman, all offered no help for my matter.
If you are looking for a bank, I do not recommend Wachovia, find another bank! They WILL get you and they don't care how long you have been a customer of theirs.
I will be writing the Office for Comptroller and Currency.
I called a friend to vent and she said she just got the same FEE's!
I know there are hundereds of people being taken advantage of and would like to know if there is a law or bill that is out there that I can sign to forge forward and have these fee (for everyone) reduced!
