So I turned 21 in January of this year and quickly after, in February, I received a Settlement Offer. The notice appeared to be made by amateurs, but I decided to call up the toll free number to double check.
Now I have excellent so it seemed odd to be receiving a notice of a failure to pay, I've never even had a Verizon account before.
When I got ahold of someone the man on the other line, don't remember his name, but it was probably Ray because I think only two people work for the company. The two being Ray and Melissa. He notified me that the account was from 1998 in Iowa.
I was born and raised in Iowa so this flew up a red flag for me. However, in 1998 I was eleven. Now how is it that an eleven year old can, or even want to, open up an account for a land line.
I've made up a letter of dispute, will be notarizing it tomorrow stating that I am who I say I am and that my birth date is in fact in 1986. I will NOT send them a copy of my driver's license or any other legal document for that matter.
I do not believe that this Afni, Inc. Collections agency is who they say they are. Furthermore, I am contacting the credit Bureaus, my Attorney General, Illinois' Attorney General and the post office claiming fraudulent bills throught the mail.
I encourage everyone else who has become a victim of this false company to do the same so that we may put this to an end. Perhaps we can even get them put behind bars.
