Cross Country Bank should be illegal, I have fought with them for over two years fraudulent ripoff business

There are so many people I have dealt with I cannot begin to remember them all

Like many of you, I received a credit card from this company and was trying to re-establish my credit. I was very excited at the prospect. I used the card twice, under my $300 limit, which I was approved for. That is when it all began. I had read the paperwork and understood this was a lender that primarily dealt with persons who were trying to make better credit. I also understood that if I was ever late I would be charged fees, standard practice if you make a late payment, right?

I made my payments within days of receiving my statement and the fees kicked in. There is a $10 monthly maintenance fee, a cash advance fee (which I have never used), insurance fees, past due fees, calling customer service fee, payment fee, talking to a person fee (which I found out about today) I might add, there are still more fees. You can't even image.

I have spent the last year and a half with a closed account, which I have done nothing but pay fees. I thought I had this account paid in full in May. Guess what, they missapplied my money. I then called customer service (I do this bi-weekly) to get information as to why my payment wasn't applied for the payoff on this account.

I was told that had I made the payment that it would have been posted. I informed them that I did and they told me I did not make a payment. I asked for payment research fax number. The representative told me that he didn't have a number. I got off from the phone with Cross Country and called my bank to confirm the deductions since they don't actually cash the check that you send them, they deduct it from your account.

The bank confirmed it and I called CCB back. Finally I got a fax number to the payment research department. I faxed them 5 times before they applied my monies and reversed the late fees. I assumed that since I had paid this account in full with a letter and comment on the check that this was the end of it. Not the case. I got a bill from them yesterday for late fees, monthly maintenance fee, insurance, etc.

I called customer service and then got transfered to a Manager there (they do exist) and after a 45 minute conversation which we had. It was explained to me that even though I may have spoken with a Customer Service rep to get the payoff that it was not documented on my account, which means that even though I wrote them a settlement letter and noted it on the check that until I had made an agreement with customer service it was not valid.

I agreed to pay the remaining money explaining quite firmly that I want these people out of my live, that they should be illegal and that this is not the american way.

I was guaranteed by manager that the account would have a $0 balance no later than friday this week. Not only did I have to pay additional fees, but I had to pay the $5 fee for having them debit my account and $2 for talking to a person. I asked her if they had many lawsuits against them since I have paid over $2000 just in fees to get the account closed, cancelled, out of my life. I also found out that I had to pay an August maintenace fee in July since my August billing cycle is from 7/8/02-08/02/02. How legal is that.

They have changed the billing cycle twice since I got this card. I wonder how do they sleep at night and how can a company like this operate legally under the pretense of giving people a second chance. Since I have been in the process of re-establishing my credit this is the only company I have had problems with. I have never been so unhappy and I tell everyone I know about this company.

Had I researched this company prior to acceptance I would never have activated the account. How are these companies allowed to operate? Why when you have kept in contact with a company, monitored your account, made payments, etc., do this to a customer that they way to make a profit from. Well, they made quite a profit from me. I will never do business with this company again. They have actually ruined me on having a credit card. I do not currently have one. Yet I have paid over a year of fees on a card I haven't used.

Thank you for listening.
