My Name is Juanita and I have a checking account with First National Bank. I recently opened this account in July in order to cash my checks and have my child support and GI Bill directly deposited. That was a major mistake. I have incurred charged such as the $2.00 overdrawn fee plus $33.00 for overdrafting in the first place.
I had no idea that I was being charged such fees because I did not receive any statement that had such terms listed. I no longer receive my bank statements stating my monthly transactions. I called the 1800 number to find out what was going on and I was told there was a brochure sent out to me last month stating that if was in the negative for more than five days that is when the bank takes out the $2.00 per day!
At the beginning of the month is when my direct deposit comes and I immediately withdraw everything to prevent anything like this from happening but of course it did not do any good because I am still left owing an outrageous amount of fees.
THis past month I chose to use the ATM to get the balance of my checking account and the machine states that there was $285.00 in my checking. I withdrew all of it but $5.00. A week or so later I received an invoice stating that my account had insuffcient funds and that the bank charged my the $280.00, $33.00 for overdrafting and $2.00 per day that my account was still negative.
I have two children that I raise by myself, and I cannot afford to be paying them and still have money to take care of my family! As of January 2nd 2007 I will be gettig rid of First National for good!
I urge any new coming soldiers and/or families that Fort Hood National and First National Banks are not the banks that want to trust their money with.
