Well, My husband and I are in the process of filing for bankruptcy; I have a complete list of what collectors are and are not allowed to do; either I've been misinformed, or Portfolio Recovery is training their uneducated moronic collectors not to follow certain ethical or legal guidelines.
They've been calling me at work. Yes, as work; after I've repeatedly told them NOT to contact me there; AND given them my lawyers address, informing them that I must have something writing.
Today, I went through the same thing and the collector questioned me; "Why? Dont you know your own debts, do you have your bank statements?" I told her it was none of her business and to send a letter to my lawyer. She tried to argue with me "Mam it is my business because I am with a collection agency"; I asked to speak to someone else and she just would not let up and then finally put me on hold... I waited 20 minutes and finally had to hang up because I was at work.
Am I wrong here? I dont see how it's the collectors business what I do; it's only their business to get the money. I am certain that they are not allowed to contact me at work (at least in the state of MO) if they've been asked to; and that they have to cease contact with me if I've given them my lawyers info.
Do I have to get in touch with them to get my lawyers address to them? What is my next step.
