My husband and I had recently relocated with a need to make a new start. My husband had received a call from someone saying that they could help us to restore our credit with this credit card that we had been approved for that could be used for purchasing anything from anywhere. The represenative told my husband that he just needed to varify that our account was in good standing. My husband, while hesitant, gave the man our account info for verification purposes. Afterwards, the man informed my husband that there was a $250.00 fee to get the card but that he waould receive 5; $50 vouchers that he could use to make payments on his purchases.
Knowing that we did not have this much money in our account, my husband told the man that we would not have the money in the account until his next payday and that he must first discuss this with his wife.
When he first told me about the call, I was very hesitent and told him that I thought that he should not do it. The following day, I received a very similar call offering me the same thing. The only difference was that the deposit amount was $200.00 instead of $250.00. Little did I know that these calls were the same company making these offers, as my husband could not remember the name of the company that he had spoken to.
I, too, told the person that I spoke with that we did not have the money in our account right now adn that we would not have it for sometime. The represenative was very nice and said that this was no problem and that they would call me on that date to be sure that I had the funds.
My husband tried to call and cancel his order for his and was not able to get a hold of anyone. The one time that he was able to get a hold of someone, they were supposed to get with a manager and call him back. Needless to say, we never heard from anyone.
Then, when I realized that his order had not been cancelled, I called to try to cancel mine. Keep in mind that no one had called me to be sure that I had the money for the transaction. I was also not able to contact anyone.
The next thing I knew, my account was negative $450.00. Feeling embarrassed and foolish for ever having given out my information, I said nothing to anyone about this occurrance. I figured that we had screwed up and that we were to blame. I also figured that we could still turn this thing around and use it to improve our credit.
We waited for our cards so that we could purchase the things that we needed and the things that our children needed. When we received our cards, we were angered to find that these were not like regular credit cards at all. They were merchant cards to purchase items out of their catalog. At that time I thought well, look on the bright side, maybe I can use this to do christmas shopping.
This all happened about Feb. which was about 9 months ago. Since then I had to close my account and am still trying to pay the bank the money that I owe them.
With Christmas getting closer, I thought, I might as well go ahead and order some stuff from the book to give as gifts for Christmas. I tried to call the toll free number to place an order but I was on hold for so long waiting for a representative that the line went dead. I tried to go to their web site to do it online. That is when I was surprised to see that this site could not be found.
I did, however, find this site. I was shocked to see how many other stories, from people all over the country, were shockingly similar to ours. Since it has been so long since this happened, I am sure that there is nothing that I can do. However, I am going to try.
This new start of ours has not at all turned out as we have hoped, and it all started with this. Now we are broke and do not know how we will be able to afford Christmas this year, and they have OUR $450.00.
