I was contacted by Melissa Adams with FairView Financial Services on July 18 regarding a loan I had been approved for of $10,000. Of couse this couldn't have come at a better time with a baby on the way and a wedding to plan. My credit was ruined in a previous marriage and I was considered a high risk. She explained to me that I would need to pay an insurance premium to ensure that my payments are made to FairView Financial.
Well, she tells me that I need to send her 2 forms of identification (driver's license and social security card, proof of residence, proof of income and executed pages 5 and 9 of the contract she was faxing to me. I was also required to pay $800 up front to cover 50% of the insurance premium. She asked when she could expect payment of the $800, I told her on the 20th I would have the funds available. Well that evening and the next day I tapped all sources to come up with the $800.
I received the contract by fax on the 19th and it read that I owed $1600 for the insurance premium. I contact Ms. Adams and she told me I was only responsible for 50%, I said okay. I wired the $800 via MoneyGram on the 20th and called Ms. Adams with the reference number. She ask if I wanted the money transferred into my bank account or receive it by courier. I told her courier and she "supposedly" contacted FedEx to send my check. It is now the 21st and no funds. After reading various public complaints on the internet involving FairView Financial, I ran back to MoneyGram, stopped payment and got my money back. I might have been out $70, but it is better than being out $800.
Melissa Adams called me to get a reference number from the wire transfer and I told her to wait. She told me she would have the FedEx truck drop my check off at the closest post office for me to pick up until she received the funds.
