I received a letter in the mail stating I owe $447.27 to the tax collector of the city of Danbury, where I have not lived for over 10 years. I never owned any property in the city, because I was a minor when I lived there. The letter was poorly written and indicated that I have not responded to previous attempts to collect the money owed.
I have excellent credit and do not owe money to anyone as far as I know. This was very unnerving to get a letter like this one and I have searched all over the internet for the aforementined company. I found a lot of hits on the address, name and phone number, however none of the hits indicated that this was a phony letter.
I'm not sure what else to do other than post it here and hope someone can shed some light on this.
