I recieved a phone call from the number listed above. The gentleman on the line didn't state his name, or maybe he did but he was very mumbled and kind of rushing through his little speech, like he had memorized them and said the same thing numerous times.
He began to tell me that he was with Capital Financial, an affiliate of Capital One. That I had been approved for a credit card through them to build up my credit. Naturally I was excited, because I've applied multiple times, but have always been denied because I haven't established any credit. Since he had informed me that they were affiliated with Capital One I didn't really hesitate when he asked if he could verify my information so that they could send out my card to me.
After this he proceeded to tell me that there is a $200 deposit required to start it up, but that I would get it back in 4 vouchers $50 each, that I can use to make payments on my credit card. It seemed a little odd after that, but he explained that since I didn't have any established credit it was for security purposes on their part, etc. He asked me if I would have the funds available in my account the next day (today) and thankfully I said "no" because I happened to have my car in the shop and that I was just having to pay for it. So he set a date for two weeks (June 7th) to take the funds out of my account.
After this he gave me a "confirmation number" and the customer service number (1-888-281-6710) and stated office hours were from 10am - 6pm.
After he hung up I began feeling a bit more skeptical so I googled the phone number that had called me (727-528-7129) and this website popped up first. All I saw was "fraudulant" and "rip off!" across the whole page.
I plan to call the customer service line as soon as 10am comes around (about 40 minutes) and give them a piece of my mind. I took note of some of the things other people had said when they called. I'll definitely call my bank as well to inform them of the situation and that money might still be taken out of my account. I'll try to update more on the situation.
