Argent Mortgage Company
What a nightmare!

I have been reading these reports for years. After hearing about the recent layoffs in NY I feel the need to make my voice heard. And celebrate!

I worked at Argent Mortgage Company in New York for roughly a year and a half. I started out doing setup and moved through the system like everyone else and wound up an underwriter.

The stuff that went on in that place was astonishing. They hired literally anyone who walked in asking for a job. No interview. I heard many accounts of people walking into offices expecting a bunch of questions and instead they were handed a packet and told to start on monday. That's it. If you had enough fingers to type you had a job. 80% of Argent's employees were from the lower end of the totem pole in intelligence and were not qualified in the least to be handed the task of dealing with people's finances. I would definetly think twice about getting a loan with Argent. Unless of course you want a hungover 22 year old right out of college (if that) who doesnt know how to use a fax machine handling your life savings and assets.

Promotions were given to the individuals who stayed at work until 9pm and then joined the rest of the fools at the bar across the street afterwards. Not to the hardworking people who had to go home and take care of their family. (I am not one of those people... I was actually part of the bar crowd). If you were a guy (a black guy) and you slept with Sanfillipo you were
"in." For the females looking to move up their ticket was giving head to Roy George. Roy is infamous for getting female employees drunk and having his way with them in his car. Thats just the way it worked. If you didn't put out and get wasted you were left out of the next wave of promotions.

It was common daily practice to forge EVERYTHING. So much so that there was an actual typewriter in the middle of the floor to make it convienent to alter documents. As an underwriter I was forced into approving loans for people who clearly would not be able to make the monthly payments. If I declined it, the Account Manager would run to the manager like a two year old and get it "signed off on." They didn't care. They just wanted the money. It was actually very sad.

I was friends with plenty of employees there that were honest hardworking people. Just because they didn't drink and act like sluts their careers were put on hold. People with actual experience who actually knew what they were doing were making a salary close to the poverty line. Argent promises the world and screws you in the end.

Luckily me and many other people were able to break out of there and find REAL jobs. It was a scary experience for me. Here I am thinking I'm an "underwriter" and most employers were laughing in my face. I knew how to read credit and I knew some mortgage lingo. That's all I knew. I had to relearn everything at my current company the "correct" way. Working at argent is a big waste of time. Working there isn't even a taste of what it's like to work in the industry.

Unfortunetly alot of people coming out of that hellhole are going to find it difficult to be taken seriously when applying for a new job. Having Argent on your resume is a big joke around here. It's one huge patethic scam to all those invloved. They brainwash their employees and whoever is still under their spell should wake up and get out. We are all very happy to hear that Argent has just laid off 200 setup and docdrawers. It's a blessing in disguise to them. Hopefully they didn't waste too much time trying to "build their career" which didn't actually exist. I hope this is just the first step in wiping this company out all together and stop ruining peoples lives and careers. Leaving that place was the best thing I ever did.

Bye Bye Argent! Finally!
