Ripoff, theft by deception

I have filed the following complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

January 13 I received an email stating that I have been pre-approved for a Visa Card. I filled out the form not noticing the paragraph in small print that states that I would be charged 159.95 from my bank account. I did receive an email that stated "Expect delivery in approximately 15 to 20 business days". No where on the form or the original e mail did it say that the card was a debit card. They certainly implied that I had "been approved for a credit card"

If you go online and enter*in your browser you get to a site that lists cards the second one down in the middle of the page is a *. If you click on apply you go to the page. You are now at the page I got to from hitting the link in the original e mail. You can not access this page any other way.

When you get to the application you can see that the implication is that you are approved for a credit card. After you fill out your address you are sent to a page that asks for you bank information. There in a small paragraph is the statement about the 159.95 charge to your account. Along with me I found letters from 3533 people at / usacomplaints.com/reports/ripoff171619.htm that also didn't read the fine print. Again, nowhere in the ad does it tell you that you are applying for a debit card. And it certainly implies that you're getting a credit card. I feel that this is a theft by deception. I have had to close my account at the bank.

I have 2 credit cards both of which I got online in this same way but they were real credit cards. I applied and entered the same information as this application but was not charged any fee from my bank account. Though they have confirmed that my application is stopped but they will not say that they are not going to try to collect the $159.95 anyway, hence the closing of my account. Please get back to me as soon as you can I really feel that these people need to be stopped.
