Sunbelt Credit
Ripoff Privacy laws: Who DO they protect

In 2004 my ex - husband left me with an old "clunker" of a car, two mortgages, a seven year, old and pregnant. As if this were not enough, I was at work and received a phone call from our local Sunbelt Credit office. We had previously had two loans there before to my knowledge. Both loans were current and had been paid off before the maturity date. (Let me just mention that I was employed at BankTrust Florida for what would have been 5 years at the time.)

It was a huge surprise to me that my husband of ten years was addicted to crack cocaine and had left in the first place, so imagine my surprise to find he had taken out a $3,000.00 loan with Sunbelt and used my car title as collateral. He also used the serial #s to two televisions, a home theatre system, and a stereo that I am not even sure we owned. When Susan from sunbelt called to ask why the payment was late, I tried to get as much information as I could without violating my husbands privacy. What a crock! No one asked him about my privacy when he had someone forge my name to my car title. (solely in my name.) I went to the office and spoke with Susan, I was very polite as was she. She wanted payment on the loan though. Susan did not at all seem concerned with my "stolen title" I requested a copy of the signature on the title. She told me that they do not keep those records there. Techinically speaking, Sunbelt did not have a "secured loan". Another month passed and my husband still had made no payment on the loan. He only made the first payment and disappeared.

For almost five months, Susan never hesitated at the end of every month to contact me about payment. Nevertheless, each time I asked about information on the title she said they were looking into it. Once I threatened to have my attorney (which I could not afford) help them, I never heard anything else about it.

In the meantime, an $800.00 1988 Volkswagon needed $300.00 worth of work. I refused to put that kind of money in to it for them to possibly come reposses it. So for a year I borrowed a car from my mother.in the divorce I got everything, except the debt solely in his name, including the car. To my knowledge he still has not paid the loan and I can not even apply for a stolen title, so I am without a car. Well I know where it is and so does Sunbelt. Why won't they reposses it? Sounds strange to me.

Susan at Sunbelt was very interested in any information that I could give her about the where abouts of my ex-husband and had no interest in fixing their error on the stolen title. I will never ever do business with them again!
