I thought that i was finally done with Advantage America when i called my bank and told them to cancel my visa ATM card, but they got me today-october 24. About two weeks ago, someone called me and told me that i was qualified for federal grant for $6000.00, but that i should deposit $298.00 in my account by tuesday (in one week time) for filing and processing. He stongly advised that the money should be in the account, otherwise my bank will charge my account. I started by asking him who they are and how did they get my information. He said that they are advantage america, federal grant department, they had determined that i'm qualified for federal grant, becaus my incomne for 2003 was vey small and that i'm presently going to school, which are true. He said that i should be receiving the neccesary paper works three days from tuesday for my signature, he also gave me his name and phone number. I gave my ATM card number and the informations he asked for, and we hang up.
The next morning i called and all i had for 45 minutes was a voice mail telling me to wait for the next available customer service rep. Right there i knew its a ripoff, so i called my bank at night and reported a missing card so that they can cancel my ATM card number, which was done by the bank rightaway. The next morning i called advantage america and told the girl who picked up the phone that i'm out of it.
This morning i went to the bank and found out that advantage america withdrew $298.00 from my account, through my checking account number which i didn't give them, leaving my account short of fund to pay for a check i submitted yesterday for my rent. Its grinding me inside.
