I had been seeing calls on my answering machine for months that were of a personal business nature and did not include any additional information because federal and local laws prohibited it.:) Every attempt to return the calls resulted in a busy line or a message about a mail box being full. Tonight was the night, my son answered the phone, I got on and was transferred from a very pleasant sounding woman to a gentleman named Thomas in the settlement department.
Thomas was direct and to the point. He wanted me to pay this account off that had been turned in for collection. I asked who it was for and he said First Premier Bank and that it was a credit card. The only credit card I ever remember having was in fact from First Premier Bank but I closed it as soon as I got my first bill and saw the ridiculous charges that they had tagged on the card. I payed the amount I had charged, closed the account and forgot about it. After I gave all this information to Thomas he told me I could not just decide I didn't want the card after I signed up and that penalties are usually added when you cancel a credit card.
I asked Thomas for the account number and he started reading it to me. Then he asked what I was doing. I told him I was looking at the last credit report I pulled on myself. His reply was almost as funny as what happened next.
Thomas:
"What are you looking at?" - inquisitive
Me:
"My last credit report."
Thomas:
".."
Dead air. He hung up.
I would have posted here first, but I immediately went to Experian and disputed this item and the account he was calling on. How do they get away with this stuff?
