Wow - I would never have believed a reputable company like Dell would operate such a sleezy financial services division. It really could ruin their reputation if it ever really got out!
Here's what happened. A company I worked for ordered many computers to update their systems. The IT guy always made the deals and whenever he felt like it, he submitted the bills for payment. Sometimes the 5 page finance agreement was submitted as late as 3-months after receipt of the computers.
In any event, the computers were always paid for in full, but not always within the 30-60 day time limit.in any regard, after the IT guy left, we tried to clean up the Dell account. WOW, were we surprised when we found out that for every computer (and we were systematically getting new ones for everyone in the company) that wasn't paid timely, the ENTIRE INTEREST FOR 5-YEARS, pursuant to the contract agreement, was due in full before the account could be cleared up. No negotiating! For example, a $499 computer would cost as much as $2,500 over the 5-year period even though IT WAS PAID IN FULL ON DAY 61!
We talked and talked with their collections and were offered $50 off, but nothing more. STICK YOUR $50 WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE!!! And another thing - their finance department is not even located in the US - their outsourcing these jobs! If they're making that much money - they should pay US Citizens!!!
Read the contract people! It's really that bad!
