DoubleCharging A Bounced Check, Over A Hundred In Unearned Fees! Overdraft Protection my $#@ RIPOFF

A co-worker of mine had purchased Red Sox tickets back in February, for a game this past July versus Kansas City, sure, but I got to watch Varitek's first Grand Slam come right in my direction!

Anyway, my co-worker could not go to the game - she was going to be out of town that whole week, and wanted to sell the tickets for what she paid: $113.00

I enthusiastically jumped at the chance, but since I didn't get paid until that Friday, I wrote her a post-dated check, which she hung on to.

She cashed the check Friday morning, without realizing that my direct-deposit went through at around Noon (hers went through at Midnight, which is odd, but oh well?).

The bank immediately cashed the check for her, and she walked out with $113.00, and they charged my account the money, but since the deposit wasn't in there for another few hours, it put me into Overdraft. That's an automatic $34.00 penalty (That's what they call Overdraft PROTECTION?).

Then, inexplicably, they tried it AGAIN at around 11:00 AM and charged me ANOTHER $34.00. Pain, but oh well.

Well then the bank contacted HER bank and said the check had bounced, and withdrew the $113.00 from her account, with her bank charging her $8.00 for the mix-up.

One would then hopefully figure that the bank would deposit the money in my account, and I'd be out the $64.00 but otherwise no worse off (other than still owing the $121.00 now - due to the added fee from her bank).

Instead, they tried to cash it AGAIN, adding another $34.00 fee, then just stopped. They didn't credit my money back, they didn't try to cash it again, they just stopped.

When I found out the next Monday, I was livid. I now had to pay my co-worker $121.00 in cash (forGET BofA now!) PLUS I owed my "bank" $102.00 in "overdraft protection" fees.

I called to complain, and the only thing I got was a royal runaround. Some woman told me that it was policy to attempt to debit checks twice, usually within the same business day, and that if there weren't sufficient funds in the account, I'd be charged, and they'd try again later.

When I asked to speak with a manager, I was basically told that she couldn't connect me, and they'd call me back. Fine, whatever.

I never heard from them, after 4 days, so I called them back again. I got the SAME woman, who said the SAME things, then hung up on me!

Then I found out that someone (sure wasn't my wife or myself - we were out of town) had somehow checked out balance from a 3rd party ATM, charging $1.50 in fees each time, and since BofA has such an AWESOME Overdraft Protection policy, I was charged $34.00 for each of THOSE as well!

Well now I refuse to pay the bank - forget that. I'd rather eat 100 year old eggnog off a rotting cow's stomach than pay them MORE money so they can screw me over again!

Word Of Warning: DO NOT USE BANK OF AMERICA! They are horrible, and their fees are ridiculous! Overdraft protection is supposed to be PROTECTION, not SHAFT-TECTION!
